Annual Report 2015 1. BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE COMPANY 1.1 The company’s business model The Hamburger Hochbahn AG (HOCHBAHN) is one of the leading local public transport companies in Germany. About 1.2 million passengers use the public transport provided by the HOCHBAHN and its subsidiaries on four U-Bahn lines and more than 100 bus lines as well as several ferry services every day. This means that it covers about half of all public transport in the Hamburg Public Transport Association (Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV). With almost 5,000 employees, the company is one of Hamburg’s biggest employers. As of 24 November 2009, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg confirmed the entrustment of the HOCHBAHN with operating public transport in the common interest on regular bus and U-Bahn services in Hamburg. The contracts provide for the HOCHBAHN to be officially entrusted with bus services up to 2019 and regular U-Bahn services up to 2032. Together with its many subsidiaries and the companies in which it has a participation, including maintenance of rolling stock, security and cleaning services, the HOCHBAHN provides a substantial element of passenger mobility in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The Hamburger Hochbahn AG is a company organised and managed according to private sector principles which is 100 % owned by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg via the HGV Hamburger Gesellschaft für Vermögens- und Beteiligungsmanagement mbH (HGV). The company is organised in four Divisions. Management Board Chairman Henrik Falk Ulrike Riedel Helmut König Jens-Günter Lang Corporate Management Division Personnel and Operations Division Finance Division Technical Division Henrik Falk Ulrike Riedel Helmut König Jens-Günter Lang The Corporate Management Division is headed by the Chairman of the Management Board and comprises the Corporate Management and Systems Development, Marketing, Press and Internal Communication as well as Group Integration and Internal Auditing Departments. As of 1 February 2016 Henrik Falk took over as Chairman of the Management Board from Günter Elste, who retired after twenty years in this function. 15
